Joan
is a registered nurse with over 15 years of clinical experience.
She graduated Cum
Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing.
She has worked in the orthopedic and neurology inpatient setting
at Parkview
Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She then moved to the outpatient
setting as an RN at Orthopaedics Northeast, a large orthopaedic physician
group in northeast Indiana and then later as an office nurse for
a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Specialist (physiatrist).
She has worked as a medical case manager, performing Nurse Reviews,
and arranging for Utilization/Peer Reviews and Independent Medical
Examinations. She has presented numerous presentations on topics
such as “Understanding Low Back Injuries”, “Whiplash
Injuries of the Cervical Spine”, “Shoulder Trauma”, “The
Appropriate Use of Diagnostic Imaging”, and “Fractures
Are Never Simple”. She has presented nationally on the topic
of “Understanding Independent Medical Examinations”.
Joan
is board certified in orthopaedic nursing, occupational health
nursing and legal nurse consulting. She is an Executive Board Member
and President-Elect of the Summit City Chapter of the National
Association
of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON). She is also a board member for the
Fort Wayne Chapter of The American Association of Occupational
Health Nurses (AAOHN). She is President of the Fort Wayne Chapter
of the
Indiana Work Comp Institute (IWCI).
Joan and her husband Bill, have
one adult daughter, Kerri. They reside in Southwest Allen County.
They are active in church activities
at
The Chapel. In her free time, Joan enjoys reading, walking, cooking
and traveling.
